

Purnendu Sardar is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Lund University and holds a PhD in Environmental Science from India. His work lies at the intersection of geospatial machine learning, remote sensing, and environmental data infrastructure. He currently applies satellite imagery analysis and AI-driven land-use change detection in his postdoctoral research, while also building open research data infrastructure.
His technical expertise includes Google Earth Engine, Python, R, ArcGIS, QGIS, multispectral and SAR imagery, time-series analysis, and deep learning for environmental monitoring. Prior to academia, he served as Director of Technical Operations at a Swedish climate tech start-up, where he worked on developing machine learning models for restoration success assessment and improving digital MRV processes for carbon accounting in large-scale restoration projects.
