Valentina Gevorgyan

Valentina Gevorgyan is an Associate Professor and civil society expert whose work focuses on the social and political developments in the EU’s Eastern Partnership countries, with particular attention to civil society, state–society relations, the institutionalisation of democracy, and the evolution of EU policy toward its eastern neighbourhood. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, a background that has shaped her comparative and theoretically grounded approach to the region.

Gevorgyan is the author of Civil Society and Government Institutions in Armenia. Leaving Behind the “Post-Soviet” Title (Routledge, 2024), a monograph that examines how Armenian civil society and state institutions are redefining their relationship beyond the confines of the “post-Soviet” label. She currently teaches in the Department of Political Science at Yerevan State University, where she combines research and teaching, contributing to academic debates on democratisation and engaging with the next generation of scholars and practitioners working on Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus.
